Conserving Energy. Creating Jobs. *(back to Parish Home Page)
SustainableWorks Principles: As a nation we are faced with excessive energy consumption that makes us dependent on foreign oil and threatens us with global climate change. At the same time the cost to American families continues to increase. Sustainable Works believes that by improving our energy efficiency, we have a vast, low-cost energy resource that will help our economy by conserving fuel, and provide new job opportunities in a sagging job market. We observe the highest quality standards and work exclusively with contractors whose workers have been through apprenticeship and training programs in energy efficiency. Project managers will inspect the work and ensure that customers are fully satisfied with the work and the energy savings.
How it works: Only the SustainableWorks process combines an energy audit and retrofit with utility incentives, federal energy efficiency funding and loan financing. SustainableWorks negotiates the best prices for materials and labor by combining projects by neighborhood, and working with each owner to create an economical package that will improve energy efficiency so that monthly energy savings offset loan payments for the retrofit. All residents, regardless of income, are served and the program coordinates with the WA State Low Income Weatherization Program.
4 easy steps:
· Pre-Audit: Volunteers will describe how the process works and whether your house is a good candidate for an energy saving retrofit.
· Energy Audit: Skilled trade works will inspect your home to determine where you can save energy and money. It will cost $95 and includes installation of CF: light bulbs, showerheads and faucet aerators. If no improvements are recommended, your money will be returned.
· Energy Consultation: An energy consultant will review the finding and suggest the most cost effective next steps. You will only select the extent of energy saving activities and costs that you are comfortable with.
· Energy Savings Retrofit: Everything is coordinated by SustainableWorks contractors, financing, project management and final inspection to make the process as easy as possible.
How can you help the St. Vincent Core Team???
While the official project will not be launched until January, we are in the process of setting up our organization now so that we can be ready to move in January. This project is not limited in any way to geographic area to demonstrate that high density is possible with energy efficiency projects. It is a community project, and we are encouraging participation at all levels from interested people in the Federal Way community.
We are looking for people who are interested in:
· Helping to publicize the project
· Volunteering to help support the selected neighborhood
· Serving in various leadership roles
